Halfway There

This week you're carrying about 10.5 inches and 10.5 ounces of solid baby-miracle-goodness! Their little delicates bones continue to ossify and toughen while their itsy bitsy finger and toe pads are finishing up. Your little one now has teeth buds, although they’re hidden beneath the gum line. And finally! Their limbs have reached their relative proportions—no more alien baby! Their cute pink lips are more defined, and might be helping out in a bit of prenatal thumb-sucking. What’s more, eyelashes and eyebrows are also visible. At this point, your little one really looks like a miniature baby—and we do mean miniature as your little swimmer currently weighs a mere eighth of their final birth weight. With half the pregnancy behind you, the most significant gains are yet to come!

We've reached the halfway point! I can't wait for the ultrasound! Ryan and I are still discussing names, although he refuses to entertain the thought of any boy names I may throw out there. He just gives me "the look" and counters with another girl name. We do have it narrowed down on the girls side though. Maybe we'll post a poll with the names after our ultrasound next month.

I feel less in tuned with this pregnancy than I was with Riley. I would research the internet daily about what he was doing in my womb and how big he was getting and what he should weigh. I would take my iPod with me to work, place the headphones on my belly, and let him listen to everything from Bach to Jimmy Buffet and Mozart to Matchbox 20. Later in my pregnancy I would read aloud to my big belly and rub it constantly. But, this time around I have a few more distractions. Every once in a while, though, La Bean will surprise me with a sharp movement or squirm as if to say, "HEY, I'm here too!!"

I think I'm going to join the YMCA again when it gets cooler. Riley doesn't let me get on the treadmill when he's awake and his nap schedules can be so sporadic that I never know how much time I'll have. It would be much easier to go and let him in at the Y's day care place for an hour or so. It would also be good for Riley to be exposed to other people. I miss the feeling of being fit. Plus, I want to be ready for the Triple Crown Races next year. It might be a lofty goal, but I'm aiming for it just the same. We'll see if my new doc agrees with me.

Time to sign off. We've got some folks coming to look at the condo tomorrow and we're not exactly ready. Plus, Ryan and I are watching UK and Arkansas play a nail-biter of a game. It's the fourth quarter and they're down by 8 - thanks to a safety and touchdown. Riley wore his UK jersey tonight at dinner so hopefully that will give them good luck!
